![]() ![]() These core subtests help to home in on the test taker's intelligence quotient. The WAIS is on its fourth edition and is comprised of 10 core subtests. it's just a small insight into how the practice effect and the entire IQ measuring concept and inflated/deflated thing is misunderstood. The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) is intended for adolescents (16 and over) and adults. Shouldn't it be higher due to the practice effect? Well. Do you know what was my 2nd attempt on the same test? 13ss. Then why can't the same thing happen on IQ testing? Go and see how many amateur blunders the best of them made - it simply happens. But tomorrow, I'll have my thinking blurred and won't be able to solve something much easier. I will solve some insanely heavy and g-loaded problems today. People perform differently because intelligence is not fixed, we are not always at our best, and our brain doesn't work in the same mode on every test. That's why we usually don't correlate higher than 0.6-0.75 between even the most accurate tests. Many studies show a 1-1.5SD of difference in scores between professionally administered tests - it's something pretty common. It doesn't make one inflated or another deflated. My FSIQ on WAIS-IV administered by a psychologist is 142, RAPM set II 144, while my Raven's 2 is 147 - so it's pretty much in my actual range. You can't make rules based on isolated cases. That's how I see the practice effect phenomenon and it's impact on IQ scores. Well, you'll agree, it would not be logical that there is a greater influence of the practice effect than in the case when we do the same test twice. Let's compare that to taking a completely different test, of the same type. Now, that is the scientific definition of the practice effect phenomenon. See the difference in scores and judge whether what I am saying makes sense. After a few more days, repeat it a third time. After a few hours or a few days, try to do it again. Therefore, the practice effect is overhyped and mentioned too much without a valid reason and cover. And even when repeating the same test on the same day, the score increases on average by 2 more correct answers, which is about 5-8 points. I have not found anywhere a scientific study on the practice effect when doing different tests, of a similar type. After all, the practice effect is a phenomenon that is observed when the score changes when repeating the same test. I have never heard of a case where someone over the age of 18 increased their score on matrix reasoning tests by one SD or more, no matter how much they practiced this type of tests. No matter how much you practice matrix reasoning patterns and no matter how many tests of that type you take, when you take these two tests, you realize that your score that you usually get on those tests remained unchanged with a minimal difference of 3-5 points. But on many tests, what is important is the potential, the maximum that you can provide. In some tests, the effect of surprise and novelty is important. But let's look at it from the other side. As for your 119 Mensa Dk score, it is realistically 123-125, because that test is deflated due to the selective biased sample on which it is standardized. So your score on this digit span test can be considered valid, no worries. ![]() There really is no difference - as the saying goes ‘if you are a rose you will bloom, regardless of the circumstances’. I took the official WAIS-IV with a psychologist and that DS was just as difficult for me as the online one and my score was exactly the same. Well, you see, it all depends on the person and it is a matter of a very subjective nature. But to be sure, subtract 4-5 points and then it's mostly a realistic score. This means that anything above 40 correct answers should have been at least 125. In the higher range the situation is very clear because the official test has a ceiling of 160. The only thing that there is doubt about are the norms, because we do not know how Pearsons calculates the score, but this is the case only in the lower range. Raven's 2 automated is basically Raven's 2 long form posted on Wiki, and it's actually one full session recorded from q-global. Mate, don't thank me, I like it if I can be of help. ![]()
